Il Pastorale,

L'Urbano e

il Suburbano

A comic Handelian Pastoral Ode (libretto by Alasdair Middleton) written in the form of a combative discussion between the countryside (soprano) and the town (tenor) with children's chorus mediating between the two. The discussion becomes increasingly animated until, at the end of the piece, the full ensemble of singers come together to sing the praises of Suburbia.

Composed for soprano, tenor, flute, saxophone/bass clarinet, violin, cello, harpsichord, theorbo, SATB chorus and electronics, commissioned by the Brook Street Band, first performed at Aldeburgh July 2015.
