MATTHEW KING - COMPOSER

Songs for Mezzo Soprano and piano with texts by the 13th century Persian Sufi poet Rumi. I attempted to respond to these ecstatic texts by bathing the voice in a sonorous piano accompaniment. The songs were commissioned by the mezzo soprano Bianca Andrew, and first performed at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in July 2015.
