...And Dream of London...

The title of this slow, meditative piece for orchestra comes from William Morris's poem Earthly Paradise. In this piece I attempted to create something utterly simple in terms of texture, harmony and compositional material: a slow, simple melody, using various transpositions of the Big Ben chimes, floating over an undulating, river-like accompaniment of gently shifting orchestral colours.  And Dream of London was composed for the London Millennial celebrations, and premiered in St. Paul's Cathedral in June 2000.
